Weight control

Metabolic correction

Metabolism is the process by which the body changes food and drink into energy the body needs.

Even at rest, a body needs energy for all it does, this called basal metabolism. This includes breathing, sending blood through the body, keeping hormone levels even, and growing and repairing cells. Muscle mass is the main factor in basal metabolic rate. Basal metabolic rate also depends on:

  • Body size and composition. People who are larger or have more muscle burn more calories, even at rest.
  • Sex. Men usually have less body fat and more muscle than do women of the same age and weight. That means men burn more calories.
  • Age. With aging, people tend to lose muscle. More of the body’s weight is from fat, which slows calorie burning.

Besides the basal metabolic rate, two other things decide how many calories a body burns each day:

  • How the body uses food. Digesting, absorbing, moving and storing food burn calories. About 10% of calories eaten are used for digesting food and taking in nutrients.
  • How much a body moves. Any movement makes up the rest of the calories a body burns each day. This can be changed a lot, both by doing more exercise and just moving more during the day.

Daily activity that isn’t exercise is called nonexercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT). This includes walking around the house. It also includes activities such as gardening and housework, and even fidgeting. NEAT accounts for about 100 to 800 calories used daily.

Metabolism and weight

We often want to blame a medical condition for slow metabolism and weight gain. But rarely does a medical condition slow metabolism enough to cause a lot of weight gain. Conditions such as Cushing syndrome or having an underactive thyroid gland, also known as hypothyroidism can slow metabolism and sufferers can gain weight.

Many things affect weight gain  including  genes, hormones, diet and lifestyle ( sleep, physical activity and stress)..Most common cause, however is  eating more calories than burning.

Some people seem to lose weight more quickly and more easily than others. But everyone loses weight by burning more calories than are eaten. The bottom line is calories count. To lose weight, one needs  to eat fewer calories or burn more calories through physical activity. Even better to do do both.

Metabolism calculation and adjustment

Metabolic consultation will take into account you current metabolic status, calculate you base metabolic rate and requirement for adjusting you dietary intake and physical activity to sustain weight loss. A doctor will check for possible metabolic disorders and conditions which might cause it.

Metabolism correction with medication

Some medicines (for example Phentermine)  can be prescribe to  help to supress appetite and help to decrease food intake. However, self-motivation stil stays a main answer to weight control.

Insulin resistnce often seen in people with impaired metabolism also can be treated with some medicines such as Metformin or Synjardi.

Detox and weight loss IV infusion

Weight loss IV therapy combines various medical grade substances such as lipotropics, hydrating fluids, and a special formulation of  minerals and vitamins to help boost your metabolism, help to get rid of metabolites and waste products (detox) . IV therapy for weight loss isonly recommended alongside exercise, healthy eating, and an active lifestyle.

Weight loss injections Semaglutide (Ozempic)

Semaglutide, a medicine injections of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, is approved to treat type 2 diabetes, with subcutaneous injection doses of 0.25, 0.5, and 1 mg administered once weekly and oral doses of 3, 7, and 14 mg administered once daily.

In June 2021, the FDA approved subcutaneous semaglutide for long-term weight management,14 with higher doses of 1.7 and 2.4 mg once weekly.

The Semaglutide treatment trials have shown the efficacy of semaglutide for the treatment of obesity. Patients receiving semaglutide, 2.4 mg, lost a mean of 6% of their weight by week 12 and 12% of their weight by week 28.

This treatment is only offered if weight loss by other means is not effective. It is only can be offered under a strict medical supervision.
